Refuel is a conference for everyone involved in youth ministry. The focus of Refuel 2020 is 4 Chair Discipleship. Our objective is to equip leaders to be disciple makers. This year we have the great pleasure of having guest speakers Doug Holliday and Jay Fast from Sonlife ministries lead us through the 4 Chair Discipleship training along with Ronnie Murchison leading us to the feet of God in worship.
Refuel is a gathering for youth leaders. Anyone involved in youth work as a volunteer leader, paid corps employee, intern, youth development coordinator, divisional staff, territorial staff, cadet, and corps officers are all welcome to Refuel!
At the 2017 Young Adult Retreat, our guest speakers will be John and Lois Kim. They’ll be unpacking what it means to be faithful to both God and the local church during our main sessions.
John has been serving as the English Ministry Pastor at The Salvation Army Mayfair Community Church in Chicago since 2004. He received his Master of Divinity from Moody Theological Seminary and is currently pursuing his Doctor of Ministry from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. He loves to play volleyball, watch all World War II movies, and cheer for his Cubbies.
Lois has been the Children’s Ministry Director at Mayfair Community Church since 2008; she has been serving in children’s ministry for 18+ years. She graduated from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago with a degree in Art Education, and then spent 4 years teaching art in the Chicago Public Schools. She is blessed to live out her two passions in her ministry: children and art. She loves enjoying good food with good company, or getting lost in a good book.
John and Lois have a rambunctious 8-year-old son Joshua, a strong-willed, beautiful 6-year-old daughter Selah, and the current king of the house, one-year-old Josiah. For more info about the 2017 Young Adult Retreat, and to register, click here.
The Summer Leadership Institute is an amazing opportunity for juniors in high school (entering their senior year) to further develop their leadership potential. The Institute is specifically designed to equip young leaders to be visionaries, live lives of integrity and gain experience in team development, motivation and persuasion.
Acceptance into the Institute is competitive and enrolls students into LEAD-235: Teambuilding & Leadership, a course developed for Olivet’s leadership minor. Curriculum is strategically tailored to challenge students during an intensive two-day campus experience, followed by a two-week online component. Successful completion of the program earns students three credit hours of coursework to be used toward the leadership minor or elective credit.
To apply, submit a completed Institute application and pertaining documents ASAP. Even though the advertised deadline for the event is June 1, they are still taking applications. The first 50 accepted students will be awarded a full-tuition scholarship from Olivet to be used toward the Institute ($1,305 value). The remaining cost includes a $179 room and board fee to cover housing, meals, etc.
The Summer Leadership Institute on-campus component begins Thursday, July 13, and ends Saturday morning, July 15.
We had an awesome time at Youth Councils 2017, didn’t we? God taught us so much about our identity; so much that we tried to condense the entire weekend into a single post. We most definitely failed there, but we hope you enjoy our hand picked assortment of treats from the weekend: videos, pictures, podcasts and survey for YC 2018. Enjoy!
We had an awesome Hollywood banquet on Saturday night, and part of that experience included a red carpet where the celebs were interviewed. Enjoy!

EVALUATION
We need to know how you thought the retreat went, and what you would do to make it even better. Who are you dying to hear speak? Who would you love to lead us in worship? What would you do to get more people to sign up? Please, take 10 minutes to answer 6 questions and let us know what you think by clicking here.
On Friday, November 4 Lt. AJ Zimmerman talked about the theme Angry God. What is our perception of God? What do we think he sees when he looks at us? Do we think he’s mad at us? Do we think he’s disgusted with us? Or do we know him to be accepting, loving and gracious?
If you want to listen back to Lt. AJ’s talk, or you weren’t able to make it, check out the podcast. Search for the “Metro Youth Network” podcast on iTunes, or listen to it in this post.
Also, you should check out the photos from the night! You can do so in the slideshow below, or by visiting our Flickr page.
